Next week, May 4-7, 2015, RF System Lab will be exhibiting at the well-known Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) for the first time.  According the the event website, the OTC Technical program covers a wide range of topics related to the offshore energy industry. Additionally, the show offers key insights by global experts on technological advances, safety and environmentally focused solutions, and economic and regulatory impacts.

The conference, which takes place annually at NRG Park in Houston, TX, has a reputation for setting a standard in the energy industry by advancing technical knowledge and scientific research; leading to enhanced competency of industry professionals.

OTC boasts one of the largest exhibit halls in the oil and gas industry. RF System Lab is excited to be one of the 2,271 exhibitors at this year’s show. Casey O’Tool, RF System Lab’s Senior Sales Consultant, will be onsite presenting the VJ-Advance articulating video borescope to offshore maintenance professionals. The lightweight and extremely portable AA-battery-powered VJ-Advance is the ideal tool for inspecting pipes and ensuring that no pitting, corrosion, cracks or other defects are occurring. Additionally, the joystick-controlled 360 degree articulation on the line of VJ-Advance video borescopes makes turbine and rotating machinery inspections stress-free.

Interested parties can test out the VJ-Advance for themselves at OTC booth #6427. Casey O’Tool will be glad to provide more information about how the VJ-Advance from RF System Lab is the perfect tool for ensuring efficient safety checks on offshore oil rigs. We look forward to seeing you there!

Last week’s Aerospace Maintenance Competition provided an uplifting look into the future of aviation and aerospace maintenance. Fourteen teams competed in the School Division of the 2015 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC); a skill-based event that took place during last week’s 2015 MRO Americas.

Zack Wessels, RF System Lab borescope expert, was onsite at AMC for the duration of the event and was extremely impressed with the caliber of teams competing; especially the college teams. “It was great to see a high-level of teamwork and problem solving skills from the teams in the school division… it was an exciting look into what to expect from future AMTs/AMEs,” said Wessels.

RF System Lab sponsored the event and also donated a VJ-Advance video borescope that was awarded to the winning college team. After a grueling two-day competition, Salt Lake Community College was crowned the winning team for the School division. In addition to earning the title of First Place Team in the School division, Salt Lake Community College took home a plethora of prizes, including the high-quality VJ-Advance articulation video borescope.

We would like to congratulate Salt Lake Community College on their victory, as well as all the other teams who came out to compete in this year’s AMC!

Next week’s Border Security Expo is bringing together high-level decision-makers from all over the world to discuss the most pressing topics involved with border enforcement. The expo, which takes place April 21-22nd at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, AZ, offers panel sessions, keynote speeches from Vice Admiral Charles W. Ray, Phil Landfried, Daniel Ragsdale, and Ronald D. Vitiello, as well as an exhibit hall packed with the latest advancements in border security.

As stated by Jayson P. Ahem, Principal, The Chertoff Group and Former Acting Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “Border Security Expo is an important world class event that is the premier border security conference in the world.”

RF System Lab’s VP of Government Programs, Joel Riling, will be exhibiting on behalf of RF System Lab. He will be onsite to provide demonstrations and give information about the line of ergonomic VJ-Advance articulating video borescopes. The VJ-Advance, which is currently being used by every branch in the military, is an excellent tool for bomb squads and EOD professionals to have on hand; especially where border security is involved. With poly-coated insertion tubes as tiny as 2.8mm, the joystick-controlled VJ-Advance can fit in extremely small areas; allowing border security professionals to internally inspect suspicious areas with confidence.

Interested parties can stop by the RF System Lab Booth #1118 in the Border Security Expo exhibit hall for more information. If you’re unable to attend this expo, check-out future shows that RF System Lab will be attending on the RF System Lab website.

Only four days until the Aerospace Maintenance Competition, taking place at the 2015 MRO Americas: April 14-16, 2015 in Miami, FL. As we’ve told you previously, we’re giving away a VJ-Advance articulating video borescope to the winning team in the school category.

We reached out to the schools competing with a goal of getting to know more about their schools, the members of their team, and what they’re looking forward to at this year’s Aerospace Maintenance Competition. We previously posted the responses from South Seattle College, and today we are excited to feature the team from Indian Hills Community College on the RF System Lab blog.

The Indian Hills Community College team members include George Allen Francis, Nicolas Daniel Alexander, Leo Brian Fox, Niccolo James Darr, Leonard Yarita, Joshua Mykel kruse, and Brent Thomas LeClere. Their coach is Terry Dunkin, Assistant Coach is Dan Brauhn and the Team Leader is George Allen Francis, a student at the college.

We’ve shared their answers to our questions below:

Question 1 (Q1) : How many years have you been competing in the Aerospace Maintenance Competition?

Answer (A): This is the second year that Indian Hills Community College has participated in AMC. This competition creates excitement and initiative with our students and support from organization supporting our participation.

Q2: Which skill-based challenges are you looking forward to the most at this year’s competition?

A: I can’t say that we truly have one event more anticipated than another, we look forward to all the challenges.

Q3: Tell us a bit about your school’s aviation and aerospace maintenance program.

A: Our Aviation Maintenance Program has been in operation since 1972. We are a very small school so we are able to dedicate much of our training as a one on one environment. We train our students to be very safety conscious and we promote their competitive nature. Additionally, we are very aggressive at trying new ideas and approaches and actively pursue opportunities such as the AMC presents.

Q4: RF System Lab is donating a VJ-Advance video borescope to the winning team in the school division. How would winning the VJ-ADV assist your program?

A: Indian Hills Community College is currently pursuing the prospects of the creation of an advanced Non Destructive Training and testing program that will train clients in the areas of Borescope inspection, Magnetic Particle, Eddy Current and Ultra Sonic methods and certifications, so the VJ-Advance would greatly assist that program.

RF System Lab would like to thank Indian Hills Community College for taking the time to let us learn a bit more about their school and AMC goals. We wish them good luck and are looking forward to meeting them at this year’s AMC!
