RF System Lab Director of Sales and Marketing, Duncan White, had an excellent experience at our first-ever Railway Maintenance trade show, the RSI/CMA 2014 Canadian Rail Summit. The show took place at the Palais Des Congres in Montreal, Quebec from September 21-23, 2014.
Duncan was able to gain a lot of knowledge about the Railcar maintenance industry and chat with many industry professionals about the best ways that video borescopes, such as the groundbreaking VJ-Advance, could be utilized when working with Railcars. One of our current contacts, WATCO, informed us that video borescopes are extremely useful in tank car weld inspections, which are completed by drilling through tank car jackets and inserting the video borescope to complete the inspection. Without a non-destructive testing tool, maintenance professionals have to remove the entire outer jacket, which can be extremely time-consuming and costly.
Other VJ-Advance video borescope uses that sparked interest in attendees included the potential for looking at the backside of railcar wheels for manufacturer number and checking castings in the manufacturing process. These applications are made easy with the VJ-Advance’s joystick-controlled, four-way articulation and variable LED lighting.
All in all, The Canadian Railway Summit was a great show. The location was perfect; there was a good flow of attendees in the exhibit hall, and Duncan was able to learn a great deal more about the Railcar industry.
If you could not make it to the RSI/CMA 2014 Canadian Railway Summit and missed a chance to test out the VJ-ADV, you can still try one out at your own facility! RF System Lab offers a no cost, no demo program, which you can sign up for right here. To find out more about the free borescope demo or to chat with a borescope expert, you can call the RF System Lab office at (231) 943-1171 or visit the RF System Lab website.
Video borescopes have many different applications; including the Railway industry. For the first time, RF System Lab is breaking into the rail car maintenance industry, specifically tank car maintenance, by attending the RSI/CMA 2014 Canadian Rail Summit. This year’s Canadian Rail Summit is taking place at the Palais Des Congres in Montreal, Quebec from September 21-23, 2014.
Summit highlights include:
- A keynote speech from CN President and CEO Claude Mongeau, who will provide attendees a fresh insight into the current state and future Canadian rail industry
- An exhibit featuring over 120 exhibitors and the newest technology in the rail supply industry
- A chance to connect with other industry professionals – the conference even has its own hashtag: #rsicma2014
RF System Lab Director of Sales and Marketing, Duncan White, will be on the exhibit floor educating attendees on how borescopes can greatly assist with tank car inspections. RF System Lab’s VJ-Advance (VJ-ADV) video borescope, with insertion tube diameters of 2.8mm, 3.9mm or 6.9mm, is perfect for inspecting hard-to-reach areas that the naked eye cannot observe. That, in combination with its extreme portability and joystick-controlled, 360-degree articulation, makes it the ideal remote visual inspection tool for internal weld inspections of tank car jackets.
If you’re interested in learning more about video borescope inspections and testing out the remarkable VJ-ADV video borescope for yourself, stop by booth #324 and meet with Duncan for more information.

Fall trade show season is right around the corner, and RF System Lab has another few months packed full of shows and expos all over the USA (and even one in Canada). Since we are heavily involved in a variety of industries, we try to exhibit at shows that represent as many industries as possible so that we can create connections and stay up to date on all of the industries we serve. Therefore, we would like this blog to act as a preview for the trade shows, conference, expos, symposiums, and annual meetings that we will be attending in the month of September. We would love to meet you if you are in attendance!
Turbine Engine Tech Symposium - September 8-11, 2014
The Turbo Engine Tech Symposium (TETS) is a biennial forum where the United States’ turbine engine community gathers to review and discuss the latest turbine engine technology advances. Over three days of technical presentations, supported by relevant hardware displays, will underscore the United States’ commitment to advance the state of the art in gas turbine engine technology.
Edward Thomas will be providing demos of the VJ-Advance (VJ-ADV) video borescope to an audience of approximately 1000 engineers, scientists, managers, and operational personnel from the the turbine engine community, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, NASA, DARPA, DOE, FAA, engine and aircraft manufacturers, material and component suppliers, and academia. Visit RF System Lab at booth #310.
