RF System Lab Blog: The inside scope

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) makes it apparent that only airworthy aircraft should be operated. Airworthiness is the measure of an aircraft’s suitability for safe flight. The airworthiness certificate issued by the FAA, certifies that the aircraft is airworthy.

The FAA puts out what are called Special Airworthiness Information Bulletins, or SAIBs, to alert, educate, or make recommendations to the aviation community.

For more information please review this Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin.

MRO Americas 2016

RF System Lab will be exhibiting at the 21st annual MRO Americas Conference & Exhibition, presented by Penton’s Aviation Week, on April 5-7, 2016 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, TX.

The Aviation Week MRO Americas Conference & Exhibition will explore the future of aviation and defense maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) through a series of drill-down discussions and networking opportunities. Drawing 10,000 industry and government professionals, the event features the industry’s largest exhibition floor, which showcases 700+ solution providers to communicate actionable solutions, build contacts, and exchange ideas.

Borescope expert Zack Wessels will be representing RF System Lab in the exhibit hall at booth #3927.  He will be offering free demos of the VJ-Advance (VJ-ADV) articulating video borescope and answering questions about how the joystick-controlled, 4-way articulating VJ-ADV can help aviation professionals confidently complete equipment inspections.  The VJ-Advance’s numerous features can make your job faster and easier for any aviation professional looking to add a high-quality inspection camera to their arsenal; especially the 3.9mm diameter borescope, which is the perfect fit for Pratt & Whitney Engines.

During the event, industry leaders from the airlines and MRO supply chain as well as military professionals will discuss a number of the key dynamics shaping the commercial airline business today. Kevin McAllister, President and CEO of GE Aviation Services, will deliver the event’s opening keynote address.  Scheduled speakers and a complete agenda are available at http://mroamericas.aviationweek.com/am16/

RF System Lab offers the industry’s only no cost, no obligation borescope trial.  The company will send you the VJ-Advance video borescope so that you can use it while completing inspections in your own facility in order to be sure that it suits all of your requirements.  Visit Zack Wessels at booth #3927, or contact RF System Lab today at (231) 943-1171 to arrange to receive your demonstration unit.

heli_expo_picturesHAI Heli-Expo is the world’s largest trade show dedicated to the international helicopter community.  The massive 2016 event took place earlier this month in Louisville, Kentucky. RF System Lab was proud to attend for the 6th time this year and be one of over 700 exhibitors to engage with approximately 20,000 helicopter professionals.  This year’s event included 57+ helicopters on display, over 100 education courses, safety sessions, workshops, and forums.

Casey O’Tool and Jess Kuznicki, RF System Lab’s borescope experts, were on-site to provide information and showcase to attendees, who also got a chance to experience hands-on demonstrations of the VJ-Advance articulating video borescope.  O’Tool and Kuznicki are confident that our VJ-Advance video borescope can make any job easier; whether you maintain Pratt and Whitney PT6 turbines, GE 90 engines, and everything in-between, or you perform airframe component, FOD, or airworthiness inspections. Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) anywhere within an aircraft maintenance facility, or on a flight line, is never a problem with the VJ-Advance video borescope because it’s battery powered, completely portable, and lightweight.

Hundreds of AMTs and aerospace technicians have chosen the VJ-Advance aviation borescope because they have found that it delivers the right mix of features, quality, and price.  The ergonomic layout and pistol-grip design, makes all of the functions easy-to-use – including joystick controlled four-way articulation, photo capture, video recording, and LED brightness.

If you were unable to attend this year’s HAI Heli expo, you can find highlights of the show, videos, pictures, and more at #HAI_EXPO16 on Twitter.  You can also test drive the VJ-Advance video borescope with a free trial. To make the decision process easy, we offer the industry’s only no-rep, no-cost, no-obligation demo program so you can evaluate the VJ-Advance line of video borescopes in your facility doing your inspections before you decide to buy.

For more than 30 years, the IADC/SPE Drilling Conference and Exhibition has proven itself as the leading drilling event in the E&P world.  SPE: The Society of Petroleum Engineers in partnership with the IADC: The International Association of Drilling Contractors, hosts several events every year, alternating annually between Europe and North America and recently expanding programming to the Middle East and Asia Pacific.  These events accelerate progress in the oil and gas industry by connecting forward-looking technical presentations to open discussion forums.  The technical program enables oil and gas professionals to see through today’s challenges and work collaboratively toward solutions that create a stronger future for an increasingly energy-driven world.  RF System Lab has attended various conferences hosted by the SPE since 2011, and 2016 marked the fourth year in attendance.

Chad Parker, one of RF System Lab’s borescope experts, was happy to enjoy the warm weather in Houston, Texas to share the groundbreaking VJ-Advance (VJ-ADV) video borescope with IADC/SPE event attendees. He had the opportunity to speak with existing customers about their experience with the easy to use, handheld, fully-articulating VJ-Advance video borescope and was excited to present new customers who stopped by the booth an opportunity to get a hands-on demo of the VJ-ADV in 2.8mm, 3.9mm, and 6.9mm diameters. The VJ-ADV offers remote visual inspection capabilities to petroleum, oil, and gas professionals.

RF System Lab will be attending several conferences and exhibits around the country, so if you missed out on your hands-on demo feel free to see us at these shows:

MRO Americas – Dallas, TX: April 5-7, 2016 – Booth 3927

Cast Expo – Minneapolis, MN: April 16-19, 2016 –  Booth 1848

Electric Power – New Orleans, LA: April 18-20, 2016 – Booth 421

RF System Lab, a leader in non-destructive testing technology, is excited to announce the arrival of the groundbreaking 6.9mm x 8M VJ-Advance (VJ-ADV) video borescope.

The 6.9mm x 8M scope has all of the same features as the original, flagship 6.9mm VJ-Advance, including four-way joystick-controlled camera articulation, medical-grade camera technology, and trigger-activated image capture.  However, as indicated by the name, the 8M (8 meter) VJ-ADV offers a much longer insertion tube, allowing inspection of heat exchangers, boiler tubes, process piping, and more.

Historically, RF System Lab’s line of 6.9mm, battery operated, easy to use, articulating video borescopes have been offered in lengths of 1.5 meters (4 feet, 11 inches), 3 meters (9 feet, 10 inches), and 5 meters (16 feet, 5 inches’). Our borescope experts are thrilled to now be able to offer this, highly anticipated, in-demand 8 meter (26 feet, 3 inches) scope to new and existing customers.

Just one of the many industries that can benefit from the 8 meter borescope is the food manufacturing industry. Remote visual inspection of pipe welds is crucial to find surface flaws, cracks, porosity, unfilled craters, poorly formed beads, and misalignments; all of which could cause delays in production.  The 6.9mm x 8M video borescope saves time and money and is ideal for weld inspection because of its long reach, slender size, and articulation, allowing it to easily navigate through piping.

The versatile 6.9mm x 8M VJ-ADV articulating video borescope will quickly become a must-have tool in any engineer’s toolbox but don’t just take our word for it.  Please contact one of our borescope experts directly to try the 6.9mm x 8M VJ-Advance for yourself.  To make the decision process easy, we offer the industry’s only no-cost, no-obligation demo program.  Contact RF System Lab today by visiting our website or call (231) 943-1171.
