It is now day three of the 2013 ASNT Annual Conference and the show is in full swing! The American Society for Nondestructive Testing is the world’s largest technical society for nondestructive testing (NDT) professionals. Sean O’Connor knows a thing or two about the world of NDT (non-destructive testing) and RVI (remote visual inspection). As the General Manager of RF System Lab and co-designer of the VJ-ADV video borescope, it was no surprise when Aviation Maintenance magazine approached him to do an interview about borescopes and how they are an essential part of aircraft inspections.
RVI technology has improved greatly over the last decade. No longer are fiber optic-based scopes the preferred instrument for aircraft inspections. Newer direct video-based scopes (videoscopes) using high-end miniaturized cameras and micro LED illumination are now being adopted. The aircraft maintenance industry has lead the charge in adopting this new technology.
